The application period for Repsol’s round 2 challenge has reopened

Repsol Challenge

PITCCH PITCCH — the Pan-European Open Innovation Network — is aligned with measures adopted by the EU in response to the situation between Russia and Ukraine. Due to the circumstances, the European Commission has stopped all grants of Horizon Europe funding to Russia and suspended existing Horizon 2020 payments.

For the Repsol challenge belonging to the 2nd cut-off, “Production of Bio-Butadiene from Ethanol”, the winning SME, in spite of the high quality of the solution and competencies proposed, cannot be supported under the PITCCH project on the basis of the measures above referred.

We have hence decided to exceptionally re-open the challenge, given the exceptional circumstances, and accept new solutions until the 16th of May.

Repsol’s challenge in more detail:

Repsol is a global multi-energy provider that strives to drive the evolution toward a low-emissions energy model. To advance in the implementation of bio-based routes in the Butadiene production, diverse R&D activities based on the design of new processes and reaction systems have to be developed with the aim to optimize the economic and environmental impact of the global production process compared to fossil production routes.

Repsol is looking for an SME or Startup to develop a cost-competitive Bio-Ethanol-to-bio-BD technology to reduce CO2 footprint from fossil Butadiene production processes and increase the use of non-food and waste biomass as feasible low-cost feedstock.
