Existing transformer monitoring solutions with their inherited complexity have a high cost attached, therefore, the digitalization of the grid to a more intelligent and flexible one isn’t occurring at the rate that it is envisioned.
The development of a cost-effective and reliable IoT hardware for remote monitoring, to digitalize all oil-immersed transformers, allows a faster advancement of smart grids to cope with the energy transition challenges.
The IoT system has to acquire and transmit (cellular network) operational data from sensors integrating with a platform in IEC61850, it shall be a plug and play solution and it should be possible to install on operating transformers.
