At present, global butadiene production is fossil-based and contributes 1.53 ton of CO2 per each ton of product. Industry requires bio-based butadiene, but there is no bio-based technology on the market. This challenge will allow obtaining a bridge technology to obtain bio-butadiene from ethanol without significant production chain modifications.
To advance in the implementation of bio-based routes in the Butadiene production, diverse research and development activities based on the design of new processes and reaction systems have to be developed with the aim to optimize the global production process in terms of economic and environmental impact compare to fossil production routes.
